Is the pulp from juicing good for you? In a nutshell, yes it is. Though you can just compost all the unused fiber, many studies have shown that consuming a fiber-rich diet can help in reducing chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and more.
Also consuming a fiber-rich diet makes you feel more full after you eat it. If if you ever had a question regarding can I eat the pulp from my juicer? Or should you eat the pulp from juicing? The answer to both questions is a resounding yes.
Now, the amount of pulp you get from juicing comes down to the juicer you’re using. If you’re using a normal centrifugal juicer (which is more common), then chances are you’d be getting less of that pulp. But if you’re using a slow juicer (also known as a cold-press juicer) then you’ll get more pulp from each juice.
Is the Pulp from Juicing Good for You
With all that out of the way, here are some of the ways you can use that leftover pulp:
- Make Pulp-Sicles: Take a bit of juice and that leftover pulp, put them in a popsicle mold together with a stick and freeze them for about 4-5 hours and enjoy your pulp sicles. Also if you want a bit of different texture and flavor you can add other ingredients too. Just let your imagination run wild, and the rest will fall in place.
- Making Veggie Burgers: It can be a great addition to any party in diversifying the amount of choice. Celery, carrot, beet, spinach pulp add an earthy flavor and help the burgers hold their shape. Plus, they add a whole host of nutrients to the burgers.
- Turn It Into a Dip or Spread: Next time you’re blending beans, tahini, and herbs in the mixer for that delicious simple homemade hummus, you can just go ahead and add some leftover pulp to it, as well. And if you’re making a dairy-based spread, you can also mix the pulp into that.
- Mix It Into Baked Goods: You can add the pulp into bread, cakes, muffins, and even cookies, they all benefit from the moisture of the fiber. But for this application, it’s better to stick to pulp from fruitier juicing foods, like apples, beets, carrots, melon, grapes, and citrus.
- Making Pulp Crackers: Even though they might not seem super appetizing at first but these vegan and gluten-free crackers are quite good when you pair them with a dip or spread. They are durable enough and can handle scooping into any dips like hummus, guacamole, etc. And apart from that, they’re just simply healthy so you can also use them as a grab-and-go snack. Lastly, even though you can use any veggie pulp of your choice, I found that carrot pulp works best.
- Add It To Granola Bars: Depending on how you make them, Granola bars can be quite healthy or extremely unhealthy like any other candy bar. So, to make them more healthy and fun, you can simply toss in that leftover pulp for an extra boost of vitamins and minerals. Use your favorite recipe and simply mix in about a cup of the leftover, that’s it.
- Make Dog Treats: If you’re just not into eating all that leftover pup yourself then just give it to your furry friend who would happily do the honors. Mix it into their meal or make homemade crackers, or anything else. It’s totally up to your imagination.
