Now Disney+ has lately become one of the most popular streaming services. This growth is surely due to the lockdown and current pandemic situation that has slowed down the world. Although people are doing WFH and taking online classes, digital streaming platforms have seen an exponential growth in the last few months. One such platform is Disney+ and the company has been putting a lot of effort and resources to make it better.
Last month from the source code of the app, there was evidence that the company has been working on a Watch-Together feature and now the company finally added the feature. Earlier the name was “WatchParty” but now Disney is calling this feature “GroupWatch”.
GroupWatch can remotely connect you to seven of your friends, having their own Disney+ accounts, and you can watch a movie or a TV show together. The feature is supported for all kinds of devices such as: Android, iOS, and even TVs (via TV apps or streaming devices).
According to me, this is a really great addition as the family members; friends and distant relatives can watch and have a gala time together virtually.
“GroupWatch” is officially rolling out from 6th October and users can access this feature from the “Details” page of a movie or a TV show.
Users will have to send invites to the accounts that they want to join from the mobile, TV app or web platform. When the request is accepted, a virtual room will be created and all the group members will be present in the group and then anyone can start the stream and the content can be enjoyed by everyone.
However, the thing to be noted here is that once the stream starts, the content will sync amongst all the group members and this means if one member pauses the stream, the content will pause for every other member of the group.
The interesting thing is that you can use emoji stickers to show reactions to certain scenes. As of now, there are only six of them available.
Unlike the Watch Party feature from Amazon, here you do not get the option to do live chats or video calls and that would have been a really nice addition.
